Christmas shoppers will be able to buy pieces created by students at a High Wycombe university in a community craft shop during the festive period.

Students studying fashion design and product design at Bucks New University, based in Queen Alexandra Road, are selling items in Craft Coop, which recently opened in the Eden Shopping Centre.

The product design students’ work includes glass coasters, silver brooches, earrings, door stops, necklaces and Christmas tree decorations, while the fashion design students have a variety of t-shirts with their designs for sale.

Both sets of students said they “value the opportunity” to have their work bought by shoppers.

Product design student Josh Broadhurst said: “Some of our work has already sold and it’s great opportunity to take what we are doing with the classroom and test it commercially, plus it’s an excellent way to promote ourselves.”

The pieces will be sold in the shop throughout December and into January.

Jane Bowler, fashion design course leader, said: “This is wonderful opportunity to sell work alongside other designers. It’s great for the students to have their work in amongst such a hive of activity.

“It is also the perfect preparation for their next module on promoting themselves as designers.”

Dr Lyndon Buck, principal lecturer in product design, said: “We are very grateful to the Craft Coop for giving our students this opportunity to promote and sell their work, and we hope Christmas shoppers spend freely on their items.”

Craft Coop’s High Wycombe store sells jewellery, handmade glass, ceramics and artwork from more than 30 new designers and makers, mostly from High Wycombe and the surrounding areas.

It is a collective of local craft producers and designers that gives its members the chance to sell their products.

It opened its High Wycombe store in October after closing down in Marlow in June. It also has a shop in Maidenhead’s Nicholsons Centre.
