Traffic lights could be installed on a busy Marlow roundabout as plans to improve the traffic blackspot move a step closer.

Last year it was revealed £1.8 million has been secured towards improving the Westhorpe Interchange junction on the A404 – which becomes very congested during peak times.

Now proposals to build traffic signals at the junction as well as a new slip road from the A404 onto Parkway and an additional access and exit to and from Globe Business Park (GBP) from the A4155 have been unveiled.

Businesses based at Globe Park will have the opportunity to have their say on the plans during the public consultation, which is due to launch on January 7 and run until February 1.

There will also be a series of drop-in events at various locations across the park where people will be able to look at plans and ask any questions.

The project – led by Bucks & Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership (BTVLEP), Bucks County County Council, Wycombe District Council and the Globe Park BID –was awarded the money by Highways England, after Globe Park and local authorities submitted a joint bid to its growth and housing fund – a government money pot set aside for road improvements

Deputy cabinet member for transport at Bucks County Council, Paul Irwin, said: “We are well aware there is a lot of congestion on the local road network. In the morning peak there can be a lot of queuing on the A404, as well as problems getting off the road into both GBP and Marlow. In the evening peak the reverse situation applies.

“I’m delighted that we have managed to attract external funding and bring everyone together to support a number of suggestions.

“I believe there is the potential at Globe for us to improve the transport network, reduce at least some of the local congestion and encourage more investment in the business park.

“This could be a really good ‘win-win-win’ scheme.

“I would encourage businesses and local residents to check out the proposals, either online or at one of the forthcoming events.

“It is important for us to know that there is support for the enhancements or whether they could be improved.”

Manager of Globe Business Park, Margaret McCarthy, warned roadworks will “cause disruption for many people when they begin”, however, “it will be short term pain for long term gain”.

The results of the consultation will be analysed in February and work is expected to start later next year.
