More than 500 concerned High Wycombe residents signed a petition to get the town its own council on Saturday - despite claims from Wycombe Conservatives that it would be “pricey”.

Former mayors Trevor Snaith, Frances Alexander, Cllr Ray Farmer and Cllr Khalil Ahmed led the charge to collect hundreds of signatures on a petition calling for a High Wycombe town council on Saturday.

More than 500 were collected outside All Saints Church - even though Wycombe Conservatives were handing out leaflets claiming a town council would be a “pricey option”.

Campaigners - including the Bucks Free Press - launched a petition in December to get 4,000 signatures so Wycombe District Council will debate plans for a town council. The closing date is January 15 at 6pm.

Pop into the Bucks Free Press offices in Station Road, Loudwater, to sign a paper copy of the petition, during work hours.

There will also be copies in pharmacies, taxi offices, and selected shops in High Wycombe.
