A major footbridge over the A404 was reinstalled at the weekend - causing the busy dual carriageway to shut again.

The A404 between Bisham and Westhorpe interchange at Marlow reopened 14 hours ahead of schedule at 3.15pm on Sunday afternoon after the Volvo bridge was put back in place following a major revamp.

It was shut from Friday evening.

The bridge was taken away for repairs and a new lick of paint at the end of August last year. It was due to be put back in place in October but the work was delayed.

It was finally hoisted back in place this weekend using mobile cranes to lift the deck, columns and staircases back into position from flatbed lorries.

However, the footbridge has not been reopened yet - with signs in place saying more work needs to be done.

Transport for Bucks insisted the weight-restricted Marlow Bridge would be manned to make sure no overweight vehicles abused the structure while the A404 was shut off.
