The candidates for next month’s by-election for Totteridge and Bowerdean have been announced.

Polling for the Bucks County Council seat will take place on Thursday, February 7 following the death of long-standing councillor, Chaudhary Ditta, in November last year.

Matt Knight (East Wycombe Independent), Ben James Holkham (Liberal Democrat), Richard David Peters (Conservative) and Israr Rashid (Labour) are all set to fight for the seat.

The deadline for residents to register to vote is Tuesday, January 22 and this can be done online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Applications for postal votes must be with the electoral registration team at Wycombe District Council by 5pm on Wednesday, January 23.

The deadline for applying for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday, January 30.

County returning officer, Sarah Ashmead, said: “Everyone uses the county council’s services in some way every day.

“I’d encourage everyone in the Totteridge and Bowerdean Division to exercise their democratic right to choose the person they want to represent them locally, and to help make important decisions about millions of pounds of public services provided right across Buckinghamshire."
