A unique new cafe in High Wycombe is giving visitors a chance to step back in time to the 1940s - and celebrated its grand opening with veterans and the mayor on Saturday.

The Air Raid Shelter Cafe and Tea Room in the Chilterns Shopping Centre invited customers, former and current servicemen and women and mayor Cllr Sarfaraz Khan Raja, to mark its official opening on Saturday.

The quirky cafe features an air raid shelter and even a train carriage.

RAF veteran John Pearce cut the ribbon to declare the cafe open, alongside the mayor.

There was singing, dancing, performances from 1940s singer Kathryn Simpson and plenty of food to go round at the celebration.

Chris Miller, who runs the cafe, previously opened the Christmas cafe over the festive period - which was a hit with shoppers.

He said: "We are trying to educate children and the younger generations about World War Two. It's like stepping into a museum.

"After the success of the Christmas Cafe we have extended our lease until June. We are trying to get the community involved and local schools."
