Dangerous parking by parents dropping off their children at school will not be tolerated, police say.

Wycombe neighbourhood police officers are urging anyone who witnesses unsafe parking outside schools in the area to call 101 and report it.

Complaints about parking outside schools have dominated the headlines for years as parents vie for spaces to pull up and drop off their children.

Last year, residents living in Lane End Road in Sands warned a child could be hit by a car because parents were creating a “dangerous” situation by stopping on pavements, in driveways and on double yellow lines.

And parents from Hamilton Academy in High Wycombe said “enough is enough” and started a petition to fight for bollards to be installed outside both of the sites in Hampden Road and Priory Avenue.

Police are reminding drivers on the school run that they could be slapped with a fine if they are caught parking dangerously.

They said: “We all expect the volume of cars to increase when schools are open however we will not tolerate dangerous parking when you can simply park further away and make it safer for the children.”

Officers reminded drivers not to park on bends, to leave room for pushchairs and wheelchairs to get through, not to park over residents’ driveways or on double yellow lines, or stop in the road outside the school gates.

Drivers should also not park within 10 metres of a junction.
