A show home opened yesterday at one of the contemporary apartment blocks built as part of the £500 million regeneration of the west side of Wycombe town centre.

Saturday’s event coincided with a new release of 15 properties.

One bedroom apartments will be priced from £240,000, two beds from £330,000. The government-backed Help to Buy scheme will be available to ease the financial strain for first time buyers on a budget.

The new Centre Square complex opposite the Lily’s Walk entrance to the Eden Centre was previously the gas works site.

For as long as most locals can remember the now demolished gas holders were a blot on the landscape in the Desborough area.

The developers undertaking the regeneration of this part of Wycombe are one of the leading brownfield specialists in the UK.

Inland Homes based in Amersham has won awards for transforming former MoD bases into attractive places to live. They often bring new amenities to the area which are available for the wider community use.

In Wycombe, extensive and exhaustive remedial works have rid the Lily’s Walk area of contamination to bring the site up to the environmental standard demanded for housing.

When the three and a half acre development is finished, there will be 96 two bedroom flats, 137 one beds and six studios – 239 in total - spread between two new buildings and one remodelled and refurbished existing building.

Eighty per cent of the flats converted from the former offices at Castle House have been sold. The first flats here came on the market last year. They are part of the Central Square development. Some of the buyers have already moved in.

The 15 properties in the phase to be launched on the market tomorrow are in the two new buildings – Helix House and Rotunda Apartments (36 per cent of the properties in the block called Rotunda have already been reserved off plan).

The fancy new pads bang in the middle of the shopping centre are less than ten minutes’ walk from the station. A scale model of the whole development will be unveiled tomorrow.

As well as new homes and courtyard gardens, Centre Square will also have15,845 square feet of commercial space – new shops and offices – plus car parking commensurate with the size of the development.

The scheme is due to be finished in 2021.

Stephen Wicks, chief executive of Inland Homes says the regeneration “is unlocking a key area of the town which has been derelict.”

He points out: “The much-needed new road at Centre Square will link Marlow Hill to the A40 West Wycombe Road. It will form the southern gateway into the town centre and significantly improve the flow of traffic for the benefit of everyone who comes to Wycombe.

“The District Council’s masterplan undertaken in association of the County Council will relieve traffic congestion, improve public spaces, promote new opportunities for economic growth as well provide new homes. Centre Square is central to the overall scheme. Inland has worked with the council to develop a shared vision for the regeneration of the site.”

Tomorrow’s event will give buyers an opportunity to look through the options to enable them to have an input in the finished design..
