A Wycombe golf club wants to create a reservoir on its site – after reportedly telling a member of the public it had “no plans” to do so previously.

In an email seen by the Bucks Free Press, Wycombe Heights Golf Club manager Sarah Blunden said the Loudwater-based club was now looking to put a reservoir on site, but that it was not “in any way” the same large-scale project that was proposed several years ago.

She said the current plans are on a “much smaller scale”, with the proposed reservoir to be dug into the land and shaped around what is already there.

It comes after the golf club was forced to apologise last year after residents complained Rayners Avenue was “destroyed” by HGVs driving up and down it while its range was being expanded.

They said the road “resembled a golf course” as a result of up to 60 HGVs carting soil and other building materials up and down the road for the works.

Talking about the proposed reservoir, Ms Blunden wrote in the email: “The current reservoir plan is on a much smaller scale.

“The potential reservoir will be dug into the land and shaped around what is already there. “Therefore no soil will be brought onto site, and no lorries or large pieces of machinery will be regularly travelling along local roads.

“Once the machinery is on site it will remain there until the reservoir is shaped.

“At Wycombe Heights we are very keen to manage our golf course in an environmentally friendly way.

“Having a reservoir on site means that not only are we self-sufficient for water, but will also be drawing less water from the local area and can harvest the rain water. In addition, the reservoir will encourage wildlife within the area.

“We are still in the planning phase of this project, and I do not have much further information at this point in time.

“However, I would like to reiterate that this project is not the same as that proposed previously, will not require soil to be brought to site, will be digging and reshaping the land only, and will have minimal disruption to the local community.”
