A Leave campaign group has called on Beaconsfield residents to “oust the Remainer” – amid claims a confidence motion in MP Dominic Grieve will be held at the constituency’s conservative AGM this month.
Leave.EU - a political campaign group that supported the UK’s exit from the EU – took to social media last night to call on residents in Dominic Grieve’s Beaconsfield constituency to “help get [him] deselected”.
The group claims to have had confirmation that a confidence motion in the Tory rebel will be on the agenda for the Beaconsfield Conservative Association AGM on March 29.
However, Beaconsfield Tories say the wording of the motion featured in the picture they tweeted is "simply wrong", adding that it was "fake news".
They said: "@LeaveEUOfficial - you might want to check your source(s)."
Instead, it has been claimed elsewhere that the motion to be voted on at the AGM will be a vote of confidence - not a vote of no confidence as previously suggested.
On social media, Simon Dudley, leader of nearby Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, said he will be voting for confidence in Mr Grieve.
He said: "I campaigned to leave the EU but deselection is a distraction as we prepare to leave on March 29."

Beaconsfield members, get yourself down there and oust the Remainer!
Other Tory members, check our website for details of your AGM.
Mr Grieve, a staunch Remainer, has been leading the Tory rebels in having a “meaningful” vote on the withdrawal plans from the EU while still pushing for another referendum.
Last month he said hinted he could leave the Conservative party if the government backed a no-deal Brexit.
The South Bucks district – which Mr Grieve’s constituency is based in – voted to leave the EU at the 2016 referendum.
More as we get it.
