A BABY and toddler group at a High Wycombe church held a special World Book Day fundraiser for a children’s charity.
Tots in the Starlight Baby and Toddler group at St Andrew’s Church, in Hatters Lane, met Marvin the Crocodile and Nicky West from Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, learning more about the charity’s work with seriously ill children.
Marvin shared a story about George and the dragon, where George learns how to live with sickle cell disease, one of the conditions that the charity supports.
The youngsters also learnt about the network of 72 specialist paediatric nurses who provide support to more than 21,000 seriously ill children across the UK.
Children were invited to come dressed up as Roald Dahl character with Liz Webber, children and families pastor at the church, dressing as the giant peach from James and the Giant Peach.
There was also a raffle, cake sale and lots of Roald Dahl themed messy play from wormy spaghetti to mixing up Marvellous slimy medicine. The event raised just over £70 for the charity.
