Pupils at Slough schools are set to be addressed by World Champion BMX rider Mike Mullen to encourage students to cycle to school.
The BMX rider was invited by Slough Borough Council’s Better by team to speak at assemblies as part of the Go Cycle campaign.
Whilst demonstrating his array of tricks, including leaping over teachers lying on the ground, Mike talked to students about his career behind the handlebars and the benefits of getting around on a bicycle.
The assemblies have already been held at Foxborough, Marish and Claycots Schools, with a programme of visits planned at James Elliman, Khalsa, Iqra, St Mary’s, Castleview, Pippins, Holy Family Catholic School and Arbourvale Schools, as part of the Go Cycle campaign.
Ramandeep Gogna, Better by Sustainable Travel Officer, said: “The assemblies are so inspiring and fun, and Mike shows off some amazing skills that children are so inspired to get on their bikes.
“Mike is a great advocate for cycling and he exudes enthusiasm and passion for bikes which is contagious. Cycling to school can improve children’s health, reduce the number of journeys to and from school and therefore congestion which in turn can reduce pollution.”
