A dedicated Bucks Free Press reader has died aged 91.
Rex Pawley was a prolific letter writer and regular contributor to the letters page of the Free Press, and a lifelong resident of High Wycombe.
His daughter Marilyn Randall said he was “immensely proud of his ancestral connections to the local furniture industry” and he and his parents before him were regular readers of the Free Press.
She said: “Sometimes controversial but never confrontational, he thoroughly enjoyed expressing his views regarding local issues and the sometimes-lively debate that ensued.”
As a youngster, he joined the choir at All Saints Parish Church and, thanks to his choirmaster, he was introduced to the print trade aged 13.
After leaving school at 14 he completed his apprenticeship with Freer & Hayter and later joined Harrisons & Sons Security Printers. He retired from the printers aged 65.
He was married to wife Edith for 67 years, with the couple having been sweethearts for 71 years.
Marilyn said: “He was a great provider, loving husband, father of three, grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of three. We all miss him.”
