A FAMILY fun day inspired by a young York woman’s battle against a brain tumour takes place today.
Emily’s family fun day will run from noon until 7pm at York Acorn Amateur Rugby League Club in Thanet Road, Dringhouses, and feature live music, face painting, live reptiles, bouncy castle, glitter tattoos, raffle and tombola.
It is being organised by Lisa Harrison, a friend of Joanne Nicholson, the mother of Emily Nicholson, 24, who is seriously ill with a brain tumour.
Emily’s family hoped back in January to raise £30,000 towards the cost of undergoing specialist treatment abroad after her cancer spread to a part of her brain which surgeons cannot reach.
But Joanne said last night that Emily was now in St Leonard’s Hospice after her condition had deteriorated very rapidly, and she wasn’t well enough to go to Germany for treatment.
She said the money being raised would now be split between the hospice and the young adult and teenage cancer trust.
