A popular village pub and inn has been named the winner of Channel 4’s Four in a Bed after featuring on the new series of the reality show.

Marius Pretorius and Sarah Harris who run The Stag and Huntsman, in Hambleden, near Marlow, were contestants on the latest series of the show, which sees bed and breakfast and hotel owners taking it in turns to stay in each other's premises before giving their verdicts – good and bad.

Mr Pretorius, who runs the business on behalf of the Culden Faw Estate, said: “Taking part in Four in a Bed has been a humbling and eye-opening experience.

“It has taught us what guests are looking for and what we can do to improve the service and experience the Stag and Huntsman offers.

“We were most delighted to be announced as winners of Four in a Bed and that makes all the hard work and effort from us and the team worth it.”

Filming for the show took place in July last year and the pair admitted it was a nerve-wracking ordeal visiting the three other establishments as well as welcoming guests to their own venue.

The first part of the show saw the pair transported to a hotel in North Yorkshire before returning to their own hotel to welcome the other contestants.

The programme sees each hotel owner paying what they think is acceptable for their stay – with the winner the establishment with the best value for money.

Culden Faw Estate manager Alex Dick said: “On behalf of the owners of the Stag and Hunstman, I would like to congratulate Marius and Sarah and their team for achieving this great result.

“They have put in a huge amount of work and effort at the Stag and Huntsman since become Managers early last year and it is clearly paying off.

“I receive comments daily from a huge variety of people on the high quality of food and rooms, the level of service and the great atmosphere Marius and Sarah have created and clearly this was experienced by the participants in the show too.”
