Hardline Remainer Dominic Grieve is facing deselection at an AGM of the Conservative party in Gerrards Cross.

More than 100 Tory members are set to gather at the Crowne Plaza tonight (Friday) to oppose a confidence vote against the former Attorney General that will take place via a secret ballot.

It comes after he issued a strongly worded broadside against the Prime Minister in the Commons, saying he had “ever felt more ashamed to be a member of the Conservative Party” and allegedly leaving party members outraged.

He argued that unless Mrs May “stands up and starts doing something different, we are going to spiral down into oblivion”.

Theatre producer Jon Conway, who wants Mr Grieve to quit, said: “This is a guy that’s got no confidence in the Conservative party, no confidence in his party leader and no confidence in his constituents because they have voted to leave.

“But worst of all, he’s got no confidence in himself, otherwise, he would have been honest from the start with Beaconsfield voters at the last election.

“It’s nothing to do with his extreme support for the EU, it’s because for the past few months all he has done is gone back and forth on his word and has been disloyal to the party and the PM.

“All Dominic Grieve has done is try and stop Brexit, the opposite of what he has told us. He needs to fall on his sword, do the decent thing, and resign.”

The 100 strong group opposing him, which calls itself the Bcca Democracy, said if he refused to quit, the group has enough signatures to push for a special general meeting and to call for the resignation of both Mr Grieve and the committee.

It comes after almost 35,000 people in south Bucks signed a petition to revoke Article 50 and stay in the EU – something Mr Grieve has been campaigning hard for.

Mr Grieve did not respond to requests for comment.
