A Hazlemere resident has hit out at transport officers after claiming they promised to fix his road and then “left it in a worse state”.

Steve Evans, who lives in Copes Shroves, said he and other residents have been trying to get the surface in their road repaired for “some time”.

He said: “Imagine our delight when the road works warning signs went up – they indicated that they were going to spend March 28 and 29 fixing the road.

“But it didn’t work out that way. The contractors failed to turn up until late on March 28, leaving their equipment on the road outside our house.

“They then proceeded to fix the road at the far end of the street on March 29 and then removed their equipment around 10pm that night (very sociable).

“And the result – the road actually looks worse than it was before they arrived.”

Transport for Bucks’ £4 million plane and patch programme started on April 4 and covers more than 150 minor and major roads around the country.

It aims to tackle larger areas of potholes.

TfB spokesman Florence Matthews said: “The team did arrive in Copes Shrove on March 28 as planned, but that was to allow for the delivery of plant and equipment.

“Works commenced on the 29th as originally programmed. During that day all of the work that was planned to be carried out was completed. No work remains outstanding in Copes Shrove for this type of work.

“It is important to remember that plane and patch is not intended to resurface a road in its entirety, it is focussed on the removal of wider areas of failed surfacing only.

“The comments regarding the road now being in a worse condition have been noted and an inspection of the site will be undertaken.

“We also apologise for the late removal of the plant and equipment, we will be reminding our teams that we need to be sensitive to our surroundings and keep noise to a minimum after 9pm.”
