THERE was a big reaction from readers to the news that High Wycombe will get a new Lidl.

Last week, we told you that the new Lidl - which replace Homebase on London Road - has been approved

This is despite concerns from the Environment Agency over possible pollution to the River Wye that runs alongside.

And it's prompted a debate over whether a new supermarket is actually needed.

Bucks Free Press:

Under the recently approved plans, two 'pod' shops will also be built, which could house a coffee shop and one more outlet.

But there has been a mixed reaction to Lidl's imminent arrival.

More than 200 of you commented on the BFP Facebook post, with many people welcoming a new discount supermarket.

One reader said: "I'm happy with Lidl. Will be handy to have one this end of town."

Another added: "Apart from Tesco Loudwater, anyone living east of the town centre has always had to struggle through town centre traffic to get to any supermarket.

"It will make a pleasant change to have a choice this side of town."

However, with High Wycombe already having one Lidl and an Aldi - plus another Aldi opening in the autumn - some commenters said they'd prefer to see the area used for something different.

Suggestions ranged from 'a massive coffee shop' to a new doctors surgery or even 'some 4-bedroom houses'.

But by far the most popular suggestions were stores B&M and The Range.

Home store The Range has branches in Slough and Bracknell and sells everything from power tools to hot tubs.

And B&M, which has shops in Aylesbury and Slough, sells a wide range of home and garden products, electricals, toys and food and drink.
