Tesco in Amersham received a shock hygiene rating following an inspection on March 27 this year, when inspectors gave them just two stars.

The inspectors praised senior staff, saying that they had ‘good’ confidence in the management of the staff. However, only a rating of ‘fair’ was awarded for the store’s food hygiene and safety. The worst of all rankings however was the structural compliance of the store, which was rated as ‘poor’ by inspectors.

Tesco told The Bucks Free Press that they are ‘currently in the process of preparing to submit a request for a reassessment of the store’ and that they are ‘happy with the corrective works carried out’.

A Tesco spokesman said: “We take food hygiene extremely seriously and have the highest standards of cleanliness in our stores. In this case, we acted immediately to carry out improvements including additional maintenance and cleaning works and re-training for our colleagues.

“We have since had a further meeting with the local environmental health team and they are happy with the corrective works we have carried out.”
