To mark Dementia Action Week, residents at a High Wycombe care home took part a memory walk with further activities for all residents planned in the coming week.

Veterans from the Royal Star and Garter care home, which opened its doors in April and cares for ex-servicemen and women and their partners living with dementia and disability, visited Henley-on-Thames on Monday and enjoyed an afternoon snack.

Dementia Action Week is a campaign ran by the Alzheimer’s Society, which aims to act and improve the lives of people who live with the disease.

During the rest of the week, residents will also be treated to a scenic drive through Windsor, as well as music recollection activities and a tea party. Music is known to make a huge difference to those living with dementia as it allows them to reconnect with others.

Reggie Ballos, Dementia Nurse Manager, said: “Being outdoors, feeling the sun and breeze on your face, does wonders for your wellbeing. That connection with nature can bring significant benefits to people living with dementia.”
