Safety improvements to help pedestrians and warn motorists are planned at around a dozen places along the main Wycombe to Aylesbury road.

They include two new zebra crossings in Princes Risborough, new central refuges along the route to help people cross the road, and better alerts where speed limits change.

Funding of £541,000 was secured from HS2, as mitigation payment, to pay for the work.

Twenty-two potential improvements at 13 locations along the A4010 and A4129 have been identified - and from these they have drawn up a priority list, which is now being costed.

Mark Shaw, county council deputy leader and transport cabinet member, said the mitigation bid for safety improvements had been made three years ago because HS2 planned to use the route for construction traffic.

However, contractors will now use other routes and keep the A4010 and A4129 as a back-up.

"The safety of all road users is one of my top priorities," said Mark.

"The collaboration between parish, district and county councils to get this money and identify these important priority improvement sites has been brilliant.

"We've yet to finalise the detailed costings, but for now we're keen to hear people's feedback."

Bucks County Council is asking residents what they think of the proposed improvements in a Have Your Say survey running until June 14.
