Film lovers in Wycombe will have an alternative to multiplex cinemas from this Friday onwards, with the launch of the Wycombe Community Cinema.

Held at the Wycombe Arts Centre on Desborough Road, the cinema will launch on Friday evening (June 7) with a screening of the Oscar-winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

Assisted by a community support grant from Wycombe District Council and supported by the Arts Centre, the cinema is not-for-profit and aims to provide a more social alternative than traditional cinemas.

Initially, the group behind the project plan to show a film on the first Friday of each month and will offer filmgoers the chance to have a say on which film is screened.

Bucks Free Press:

Florence Pritchard, chair of the new cinema, said: “The whole point of the cinema is to introduce other people to the films you love and see films you wouldn’t otherwise watch.

“We hope we can provide a different viewing experience and build a community of people who love films.

“After every screening people are encouraged to stay for a chat in the bar where they can discuss the film and help us plan our future shows.”

Doors for this Friday’s event open at 7pm for a 7.30 start. Tickets can be booked by visiting wccbr.eventbrite.co.uk and a priced at £5 plus booking fee, or £5 cash only on the door.
