After a 12 year wait that took two years to plan which saw more than 4,000 scouts and guides take part, this May Bank Holiday weekend saw the first County Camp event since 2007 take place at the Claydon Estate.

The three day event saw a number of boy and girl scouts (aged six to 17) take part in many activities such as archery, casualty simulation, caving, climbing, judo, roller skating, slack lining, water zorbing and reptile holding which saw the children get up close to creatures such as snakes.

One of the highlights of the weekend was Scouting for Girls performing on the Friday night.

The group is best known for hits such as, ‘Elvis ain’t Dead’, ‘She’s So Lovely’, and ‘Heartbeat’, which dominated the UK charts in 2007 and 2008.

Paul Rawlins, who volunteered over the weekend said: “When you get the opportunity to stand back for one moment and look at the amount of young people having a great time then you think, yes, all of the time planning it was worthwhile.

“We are very grateful to the owners of the Claydon Estate for allowing us to use their land and we have ensured they were involved in the planning of the event.

“It was good to see them walking around the site talking with the children seeing them having so much fun.”
