Latest figures for Help to Buy show that 210,964 homes have been bought with the government’s equity loan scheme between its introduction in April 2013 and December 2018.

Buyers who use the initiative are eligible for a five-year interest free loan for 20 per cent of the property price, leaving them to raise a five per cent deposit and find a mortgage from a high street lender to cover the remaining 75 per cent.

This weekend mortgage experts will be available alongside the sales team from Connells at The Arc development in Aylesbury ready to explain the nitty gritty of the scheme and how it can help would-be purchasers of the one and two bedroom apartments at this swanky new block in the town centre to achieve their dream.

As a guide, here’s a breakdown of the figures for a two-bedroom one-bathroom pad for sale for £249,950.

The five per cent deposit amounts to £12,498, the government-backed interest free loan works out at £49,990, leaving the buyer to find a high street mortgage for £187,462.

There are three other pads available, each with two-bedrooms and two-bathrooms. All two beds at The Arc - regardless of how many bathrooms - have a parking space included in the price. A further collection of one and two bedroom designs will be released in the next phase.

The development is a few minutes from the station and town centre. When it is finished there will be 59 flats in total.
