A Great Missenden Farm Shop has announced a new initiative aiming to reduce the amount of single-use plastic used by the shop.

Peterley Manor Farm Shop have been championing the Bring Your Own Tub campaign – requesting customers bring containers to fill with frozen produce.

The containers are weighed at the till before and after being filled, allowing the store to correctly price up the goods filled.

The shop are now encouraging local businesses and consumers to follow in their footsteps and strive to reduce the amount of single-use plastic.

Pip Brill, manager of Peterley Manor Farm Shop, said: “Our farm shop has always actively tried to reduce packaging where possible – for example nearly all our fruit and vegetables are sold loose and the customer uses paper bags to measure their quantities, so this was an easy and natural step for us to take.

“The reaction from our customers has been completely positive and we are so thankful that they are willing to try it rather than relying on plastic bags.

“It is extremely important that we as businesses, but also consumers, are leading the fight against single-use plastic in order to put pressure on suppliers and the government to be making more environmentally friendly decisions.”
