Protesters have gathered in Marlow to protest outside of Barclays on Marlow high street to campaign against "fossil fuel financing".

The junction at the A4155 to Station Road has been closed as Extinction Rebellion (XR) demonstrate against climate change and the environment.

Police officers arrived in a riot van in anticipation of the protest.

Protestors sat outside the front of the bank with blindfolds on and holding placards, with one laying down in the middle of the pavement.

Extinction Rebellion Marlow has offered more details about why they are demonstrating today.

They met at Riley Park at 12.30pm before heading to Barclay's in the High Street to show their anger at what they say is the bank's "financing of fossil fuels".

At Riley Park they said they would be giving inductions to those who had not taken part in action before into "non-violent direction action and civil disobedience".

They added: "We'll also spend time talking with passers by and inviting people to attend our upcoming talk on the current climate and biodiversity crisis as well as offering out homemade cake and baked treats."

They will also be meeting in Higginson Park at 3pm for a march up the High Street.

Protestors told of the importance of "large numbers on the ground" but eyewitnesses said at around 12.55pm there appeared to be "more police than protestors".

Our Marlow reporter James Richings is at the scene.
