Early plans for up to 150 homes on the former Wooburn reserve site Slate Meadow will be decided tonight - and they have been recommended for approval.

Slate Meadow was one of five reserve sites along with Abbey Barn South, Abbey Barn North, Terriers Farm and Gomm Valley and Ashwells to be released for development in a controversial move by Wycombe District Council (WDC) in October 2014.

Campaigners have fought for years to protect the green space from development - but tonight, plans by Avant Homes and Croudace Homes for up to 150 homes will be decided.

WDC's planning committee will meet from 6.30pm and while they could still be refused, the plans have been recommended for approval - as long developers agree to make contributions to the surrounding area.

These contributions would include creating a new cycleway and improving public rights of way, a new 'village green' and open space, affordable housing on the site and a contribution towards better 'real time' bus passenger information.

But perhaps the biggest contribution would be to education - which could see Claytons Combined School in Bourne End expanded.

Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council say they "strongly object" to the plans, adding that there is nothing in them about infrastructure which would "reassure anyone living in this parish that this development should go ahead".

Bourne End Residents' Assocation have also objected, citing a "lack of information" in the plans and the Slate Meadow Liaison Group say there are "major issues not addressed" - adding that the plans have bneen "rushed through".
