Government cuts to Bucks' schools is "really hurting" pupils, campaigners say - as they prepare to launch a fightback on Saturday.

A total of 179 schools across the county have seen their per-pupil funding slashed as a result of government cuts since 2015, Ian Morton, the chair of the Wycombe Liberal Democrats has said.

On Saturday, July 6, in High Wycombe town centre, a cross-party campaign called Together for Education will be launched to "help send a message that Bucks has had enough of the cuts to education".

According to the website schoolcuts.org.uk, dozens of schools have been affected by the cuts in High Wycombe and surrounding areas.

Hamilton Academy in High Wycombe has lost out on £297,627 between 2015 and 2019 - a loss of £134 per pupil.

The Highcrest Academy has lost out on £978,830 - equalling a per-pupil loss of £473.

In Amersham, Woodside Junior School has lost out on £426,000 in four years - an £830 loss per pupil.

In Chesham, the Waterside Primary Academy has seen losses of £135,139 in funding since 2015, equalling a £226 loss for every pupil.

Mr Morton said: "“Since 2015, 179 Schools across Buckinghamshire have seen their per pupil funding cut as a result of government cuts.

"These cuts are really hurting our schools.

"Britain is one of the wealthiest countries in the world and yet we have schools cutting teachers, increasing class sizes, cutting maintenance and reducing school hours.

"This is not acceptable. We need to bring everyone together, parents, governors, councillors, unions and activists to step up the campaign against these cuts to make sure the government reverses the cuts and gives our schools the funding they need in the autumn budget later this year.”

The campaign will launch at 1pm in Church Street, High Wycombe, on Saturday, and everyone is invited to attend.

It comes just months after one Bucks school, Cressex Community School in High Wycombe, revealed it planned to shorten the school week in the face of government funding cuts.
