Marlow Fire Station hosted a successful charity open day on Sunday, July 7.

More than 200 people from the town and its surrounding areas attended the event which saw all the money raised go to The Fire Fighters Charity.

And even though this was a free event, fundraising was done via the purchasing from food stands, the souvenir shops and all the activities the station put on.

Approximately £1,500 was raised on the day as families enjoyed taking part in a raffle, face painting, a dunk tank and going on a bouncy castle.

Firefighter Lawrence Gillman, who organised the event said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended our open day which occurred on Sunday. It was wonderful.”

“With the heightened summer temperatures and pending summer holidays, it's good to be outdoors spending time with family and friends, but do take care outdoors, particularly with barbecues.”

On the day, firefighters gave demonstrations on the dos and don'ts when putting out fires, whilst also showing the crowd how a rescue team release people when they are trapped in vehicles after major collisions.

And as well as many firefighters being on show, the fundraiser also had Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service in attendance.

Both emergency services showed people the gadgets that a police car and an ambulance have on offer, with the paramedics giving workshops on how to resuscitate someone who has suffered from a cardiac arrest.

All the money raised on the day was donated to The Fire Fighters Charity.

The charity was launched in 1943 and helps firemen and firewomen who have suffered severe physical or psychological damage whilst out on a job.

The non-for-profit organisation offer care and rehabilitation for the firefighters and their families.
