Twenty new electric vehicle charging points in Bucks will go live today, installed in neighbourhoods with no off-street parking.
Nine of the charging points will be in Marlow, four will be in Chesham, three will be in Amersham, two will be in High Wycombe with one in both Winslow and Princes Risborough.
The new points will be mounted onto lampposts and bollards across the county and were installed with a grant of over £35,000 from the Government's Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).
The County Council have said that they expect to commission another phase of kerbside installations early next year if OLEV funding is available.
It was also announced earlier this week the Buckinghamshire will be part of a pilot to trial to install 'wireless' charging for electric cars.
Mark Shaw, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport, said Buckinghamshire needed to lead in making it easier for owners of electric cars to charge their vehicles on the street, particularly those with no access to a driveway or garage.
Mark said: “These innovative projects move us forward a huge step in encouraging electric car use in Buckinghamshire.
“We’re beginning to break the chicken and egg argument that says society can’t expect more electric car users until there are more charging points, and we can’t afford to provide more charging points until there are more electric cars on the road."
Installation cost £47,050 with £11,762 coming from the County’s Capital Programme fund. All 20 were installed by Friday June 21 and, after testing, they'll go live today.
