The Rye and Hughenden Park in High Wycombe and Marlow’s Higginson Park will proudly fly their Green Flags for another year after they were named among the best open spaces in the UK.

The Green Flag Awards for parks and green spaces have been announced today (Tuesday) and it is good news for High Wycombe's main green space, The Rye.

Hughenden Park has also been recognised, as has Marlow's riverside outdoor space, Higginson Park.

The Green Flag Awards - managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy - are a sign of a "well-managed, clean and safe park", organisers say.

This year a record breaking 1,970 parks and open spaces have been given a Green Flag award, with 177 of those in the south east.

Keep Britain Tidy’s chief executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “We have awarded more Green Flags to parks and green spaces this year than ever before, which means beautiful, well-managed and peaceful spaces are accessible to more people than ever. But our message is use it or lose it.

"Not only does visiting your local park boost your mental health but your visit supports the Herculean effort made by local authorities to provide world-class parks and that has never been harder to do.”
