A Buckinghamshire-based hairdressers have secured a place at this year’s HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards.

Group Spirit Hair Co, who have shops in High Wycombe, Farnham Common and Wallingford in Oxfordshire, have been recognised for their hard work as they have been nominated for a marketing strategy prize.

The salon is one of six hairdressers across the country who could potentially win the award.

Co-owner Mikaela Martin said: “Marketing is such a worthwhile investment.

“When combined with quality customer care and great hair service, it’s a magic mix.

“Word of mouth recommendation is obviously powerful, but outward facing marketing creates momentum and helps create value for our offering.

“It’s fun to come up with ideas too.

“We’re delighted to be nominated.”

Group Spirit Hair Co were founded in 1991 and have won several awards since the turn of the decade.

Some of their accolades include winning the British Hairdressing Business Awards in 2015 and 2019, the Muddy Stilettos award for best hairdressers in 2014 and the Color Zoom award in 2017.

The business also won the National Hairdressers Federations "Incrediables" award for three consecutive years in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Mrs Martin then added: “Being a hairdresser in my opinion, is the best job in the world. I absolutely love what I do.

“People sometimes look at hairdressers as a kind of dumb job, but it couldn’t be further than the truth.

“The people we meet, the travelling we do, the events we go to and the everyday routine of meeting people who want different styles, designs, colours, cuts and so on really make me feel happy that I’m doing this as a career.

“I worked in a hairdresser shop when I left school before having a career change, but I missed it so much that I knew I had to go back to it.”

“They have crafted an amazing, multi-layered communications plan, that brings existing customers closer, and new ones through the door.

“It takes a brilliant and strategic mind to link all aspects of promotions together and really shows an understanding of the market and how people are starting to change how they interact with businesses.

The award ceremony will take place at the Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster Bridge in London on September 9.
