The first Conservative candidates who will contest next May’s local election in Great Missenden have been chosen by the local party.

Cllr Peter Martin, Cllr Heather Wallace and Cllr Diana Varley have been chosen as the three candidates. The trio all currently represent areas within the Great Missenden ward.

They will contest for a place on the new unitary Buckinghamshire Council, which will form next year.

Peter Martin is currently the cabinet member for planning and economic development on Chiltern District Council and represents the Great Missenden ward on Bucks County Council.

Cllr Martin said: “This is a strong result for our local area – we are already a great team who will fight to deliver for residents across the ward. I am looking forward to getting stuck in so I can make sure Great Missenden ward’s voice is heard on the new council.”

Heather Wallace currently represents the Prestwood and Heath End ward and is the Chair of the Conservative group of councilors on Chiltern District Council.

Cllr Wallace said: “I’m delighted to have been selected along with my colleagues Cllr Martin and Cllr Varley. We will be a great team. I will focus on building a new authority which will work for all residents in Great Missenden ward through my role as Conservative Group Chair on the Shadow Authority.”

Diana Varley represents the villages of Little Kingshill and Little Missenden on Chiltern District Council.

Cllr Varley said: “This is a fantastic result for Great Missenden ward. Together, Cllr Martin, Cllr Wallace and I can protect the interests of all our villages.

“We will be a strong voice to make sure this new Buckinghamshire Council delivers better services for less money - fighting HS2 and telling them they need to do more to mitigate the effect of the enabling works for everyone in the Great Missenden ward.”
