Traffic lights have stopped working and bins lorries have broken down as the country is gripped by a heatwave.
Record-breaking July temperatures have had a major effect on infrastructure today - with the traffic lights at the Eden Shopping Centre roundabout failing TWICE within hours due to the heat.
Traffic lights at #A40 in #HighWycombe at the Eden roundabout have failed due to extreme heat. These first went down at 12, we repaired at 2 and then by 2:45 they had failed again. We will be repairing later this evening when it is cooler. Please drive carefully here!!

Engineers from Transport for Bucks fixed the traffic lights at around 2pm today, but they had failed again by 2.45pm.
Contractors have had to wait until this evening as the temperatures drop slightly to fix them.
Meanwhile, many residents have missed out on their bin collections today as Wycombe District Council warned that a number of their refuse lorries have broken down in the heat.
The #hottestdayoftheyear has been especially difficult for our bin crews, causing vehicle breakdowns across Chiltern and Wycombe. This unfortunately means that some roads will not have received their usual #bincollection today. 🔽 pic.twitter.com/9mIKp3FN5H

The missed collections will be attempted again tomorrow morning.
And earlier, Chiltern Railways told how hot weather can mean rails buckle - forcing them to enforce speed restrictions.
