Dedicated interns at a Langley based technology company have raised more than £13,000 for their favourite two charities.

The 18 interns from Travelport in Hurricane Way had set themselves a £10,000 target through fundraising efforts that included a 23 mile walk between the head offices of their chosen charities - the Rainbow Trust Children's Hospice and the Slough Homeless Our Concerm (SHOC).

The higher sum they actually raised was handed over at Travelport on Wednesday, July 10.

As part of the initiative, interns at Travelport also encouraged their colleagues to participate in a target number of ‘make your mark’ days which saw employees volunteer their time to charitable causes instead of working a day in the office.

Travelport’s Chief of Staff Simon Gros, who is the executive sponsor of the internship programme said: “July marks the completion of Travelport’s seventh internship intake. The attitude and dedication shown by the whole team was exceptional, so I’m not surprised to see them beat their target. We are excited to be welcoming our eighth - and largest ever - class of interns this month. These young women and men have big shoes to fill but seem up for the challenge.”

Commenting on his year as a Travelport intern, Tom Woodin said: “One of the most valuable things I learnt in my time at Travelport was teamwork and while getting 18 people to agree on all decisions wasn’t easy, everyone on the team really wanted to make a difference. We managed to exceed our target thanks to the level of support from everyone at Travelport."

Travelport’s fundraising campaign builds on its existing internship programme, which has raised over £85,000 for charitable causes since 2012.
