Five recycling centres in the Chiltern District will close next week permanently.

From August 5 onwards, the sites in Blizzards Yard in Chalfont St Giles, Cameron Road in Chesham, Church Lane in Chalfont St Peter, Rickmansworth Road in Amersham and Water Meadow car park in Chesham will close.

The banks will also be removed at sites in Link Road in Great Missenden, Snells Wood car park in Little Chalfont and the High Street car park in Prestwood.

The recycling that would have been collected at those sites can be put in residents’ household containers as Chiltern District Council have announced they will be running an ‘enhanced domestic collection service’.

Cllr Caroline Jones, Chiltern District Council Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “As a council we have to adapt to the changing needs and demands of our residents to ensure we are always providing the best possible service in the most efficient and effective way.

“This decision has been taken following discussion with local councillors and residents and visits to the recycling sites to assess how they are currently used.

“Unfortunately fly-tipping, misuse of the facilities and anti-social behaviour are all problems which have been experienced at the sites.

“The closures should have no detrimental impact on residents as all recycling which would have been taken to these sites can be collected in the normal kerbside household collections.”
