THE people of Slough have come third from the top of a worrying list highlighting the country's smoking habits.
Public Health England have published the list which reveals that 21.26 per cent of people within the Slough borough boundary were still smokers in 2018 - with only two other areas in England coming higher out of 147. Nationally the figure for smokers in an area is only 14.45 per cent.
Out of 19 regions in the South East Slough came top for number of smokers.

Hospital admission figures revealed 1,511 Slough borough people with smoking related conditions were admitted to hospital in 2018 per 100,000 of the population.
The national average is 1,530 and the South East area average 1,149. Slough came 67 highest out of a national list of 150 and 17 out of 19 regionally.
In Windsor and Maidenhead the anti-smoking message seems to have had more effect.
In 2018 only 8.41 per cent of the population still smoked - only two other areas had a lower number nationally and one regionally..
Hospital admissions last year with smoking related conditions were 1,022 per 100,000 of the population - sixth lowest out of 19 regionally and eighth lowest out of 150 nationally.
