This is believed to be the oldest house in Gerrards Cross.
The Priory was built in the late 1400s on the corner of what became South Park Crescent and Packhorse Road, a few minutes walk from the town centre.
Originally it was a pair of gardeners’ cottages on the Orchehill Estate where St Mary’s School is today.
Eventually the cottages were converted into one. The house is now Grade II listed.
It has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, three reception rooms and a 21stcentury kitchen/breakfast room easily large enough to eat in. Double doors from the breakfast room open onto the terrace.
The main sitting room with beamed walls and ceiling also has double doors onto the garden. There are windows on two sides, a lovely fireplace and a door through to the family room/study where there’s yet another door onto the garden which wraps around three sides of the house.
The bedroom belonging to the first floor master suite has ceiling and wall beams, not quite as many as in the sitting room below but the bedroom ceiling is vaulted. The master suite also has a dressing room and a five-star bathroom with stand alone bath, separate shower and his-and-her basins.
The other three bedrooms and family bathroom are on the same landing as the master suite. One of these bedrooms also has beams.
The paved terrace in the garden is the perfect spot for eating outdoors without any hassle. If it rains, shift everyone and everything into the summer house.
Buy The Priory and you’ll be able to leave your cars in the double garage more often than not.
The train station’s within easy walking distance.
The oldest house in town has been a winner from when it was built 500 years ago. It’s for sale through Knight Frank in Beaconsfield for £1.75 million – how many groats is that? Ask the Irish. The first groat in Ireland was minted in 1425.
