The chairman of Bucks County Council has congratulated a couple on their 70th wedding anniversary.

Margaret and Norman Brookes who reside at Woodland Manor Care Home in Chalfont St Peters, celebrated 70 years of marriage last week.

Manager of the home Grainne O’Donnell wanted to organise something special for the couple, who have lived at the home for many years, so arranged for Brian Roberts, Buckinghamshire County Council Chairman, and his wife to visit.

O’Donnel said: “We were thrilled to welcome the Chairman and his wife to our home. We know he is very busy indeed, and to take time out of his busy schedule to visit our special couple really is greatly appreciated.”

The home also arranged for a bench to be erected in the gardens of the home to reveal to the couple on their anniversary and created a flower garden, planted with flowers which have significant meaning to Margaret and Norman.

Grainne added: “It was our absolute pleasure to be able to celebrate Margaret and Normans’ anniversary with them.

“We simply had to do something that marked the occasion and so we liaised with the family to make sure that what we did would be meaningful to them and not just a gesture.

“Not many people get to celebrate 70 years of marriage these days and the fact that they could mark that milestone together here at Woodland Manor is an absolute privilege.”
