This year’s Little Marlow Fete will not take place.

The annual event, which has been a regular feature in the town for more than 30 years, will have a one year hiatus, with the decision being made at last year’s AGM.

The conclusion came after a number of committee members which included the chairman of the board left, with the remaining members struggling to think of alternative ideas for this year’s festivities.

A spokesperson told the Bucks Free Press: “This year’s Little Marlow Fete on Bank Holiday Monday, won’t be going ahead.

"We thought it would be right to let everyone know as we don't want people to turn up and see nothing going on, as they'll be disappointed.

“It was a decision made at last year’s AGM that we would re-think the fete for 2019.

“We had discussed some other ideas/fete alternatives instead, but nothing came to fruit.

“So, it was decided that we would skip a year - but I’m sure it will be back next year, bigger and better."

The fete is held on every Bank Holiday Monday in August on the Little Marlow Recreation Ground, with all the proceeds that are made from the stands, activities and refreshments going towards numerous projects and causes across Little Marlow.

Popular events such as a tug of war, face painting, bouncy castles, a Punch and Judy stand and live music are just some of the regular activities that will be missed this year, with the spokesperson revealing to the Bucks Free Press that changes are set to be made for 2020.

“We are hoping to revamp the committee and we’re hoping that this will be done by October.

“There are a lot of people on the committee who are from the older generation so whilst we’re hoping to keep a lot of traditional aspects, we want the Little Marlow Fete to be more appealing for the younger generation.

“It was not a financial decision to not put on the fete this year, it was just that we were unable to agree on an idea.

Former chairman Valerie Brownridge said: "It is a real shame that there won't be a fete on this year, but I very excited to see what next year will have in store."

St John the Baptist will still be open for teas and coffees between 2pm and 5pm Bank Holiday Monday.
