TEENAGERS across the country who have been eagerly awaiting their GCSE results day gathered at their schools to find out what they had achieved on Thursday, August 22.

Reading schools saw thousands nervously collecting results.

John Madejski Academy saw some very positive outcomes, with 100 per cent of students achieving Grade 4-9 (A*-C) in performing arts.

Additionally, 44 per cent achieved distinction. A total of 94 per cent passed physics.

Students Lauren and Kiera achieved fantastic results, and said they were heading off to Reading Festival to celebrate.

Abisheik Lafir achieved impressive Grade 9s across maths, geography and physics and 8s in all his other subjects.

At Reading Blue Coat School, 41 per cent of students achieved all Grade 9s, 65.8 Grade 7 - 9; 85.4 Grade 6 - 9 and 98 per cent Grade 4 - 9.

At Reading College, 96.6 per cent passed maths and English exams.

The Willink School also saw a promising set of results, with 86pc achieving grades 4-9 in English and maths.

Queen Anne's School celebrated a top set of GCSE results, with 97pc of grades achieved at 9-4 (A*-C) across 33 subject options.

An impressive 16 students achieved six or more 9/8 (A*) grades.

At Theale Green School, students achieved the highest grades in arts, performing arts and PE.

Headteacher Joanna Halliday said: "This year has been a turning point for Theale Green School that has been long awaited by the community.

"After very strong A Level results, we are celebrating our GCSE results today.

"The students, staff and parents have worked collectively together to raise standards of teaching and learning whilst keeping relationships and pastoral care at the forefront."

At Reading Boys' School, Ezi Obienu, 16, said he got "better than expected", with an impressive set of all 7s.

George Lauchlan, also from Reading Boys' achieved six 9s, two 8s, two 7s and a 6.

He will be staying at the school to study maths, further maths, economics and French.

Fiyin Ilesanmi who got seven 9s, three 8s and one 7, will also be staying at the school to do maths, economics and chemistry.

At Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School, Claudia Lagden achieved a 9 in Geography, and was crying 'happy tears' at the news.

This year has seen a marginal increase in top results achieved in GCSEs across the country, despite concerns about increasingly difficult exams.

The BBC reported that the pass went up to 67.3pc in England, Wales and Northern Ireland - an increase of 0.4 percent on last year.
