Naturalist, TV presenter and writer Steve Backshall will co-host a fundraising event in Marlow on Friday, September 20, at the town's Crowne Plaza.

The 46-year-old is hoping to raise funds to buy back land for The Kogi People who are based in Colombia, with the Kogi People being one of the oldest surviving indigenous tribes on the planet.

Steve will be joined by his wife, double Olympic champion rower Helen Glover, motivational speaker Mac Macartney and Tom McGibbon, who is the founder of Ancestral Earth Foundation.

The Ancestral Earth Foundation is a fully non-profit organisation, and are currently in the application process of registering to become a charitable incorporated organisation or CIO.

Tom, who is organising the event said: “We've all seen the Amazon is burning.

“Our areas of natural beauty are under great threat and so are the people and wildlife that depend on them for their survival.

“I've been blessed enough to visit these places and meet some of the tribes that live there, and I have seen how important their way of life is to the future survival of our planet.

“In my experience one of the best ways to help, is to support indigenous tribes in acquiring ownership or legal rights to their lands.”

The talk will see the foursome discuss how important the Kogi People are to their community, and how climate change is severely affecting their day-to-day lives.

He then added: “It's clear that our modern way of living is out of balance, it's not sustainable and our beautiful planet is creaking and burning under the strain.

“Perhaps the knowledge and wisdom of our Indigenous elders holds the key to our survival?

“One of the best speakers and storytellers I know is Mac Macartney and he has spent decades living with a learning from Indigenous tribes all over this beautiful planet.”

Tickets cost approximately £60 and this is a black-tie event with the talk coming with a three-course meal (which will include a vegan option) and live music.

Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
