AN OUTRAGED church minister has slammed a Wycombe Swan show for being “vulgar and immoral”.

Pastor Peter Simpson has handed in a letter of protest to the management of the High Wycombe theatre outlining his concerns about their staging of the Rocky Horror Show, which he has branded “a corruption of public decency”.

It is not the first time the minister, of Penn Free Methodist Church, has protested against a show on the stage at the theatre.

In 2010, he called for the removal of “vulgar” advertising posters for a show named Girls Night Out.

This time, the Pastor is unhappy with the theatre showing the musical horror-comedy Rocky Horror Show, which is running until Saturday.

The raunchy show stars Strictly Come Dancing dancer Joanne Clifton and actor Philip Franks.

But Pastor Simpson said it is “dismissive of biblical morality” because it focuses on themes including gender fluidity and homosexuality.

UPDATE – How have people reacted to minister’s Rocky Horror Show protest?

He said: “People have been encouraged to watch the show by a big banner on the theatre wall constantly in view of many drivers as they come down Marlow Hill. There have also been banners on the lamp posts in the high street. The show, however, represents a public repudiation of Christian teaching.

“What kind of wholesome fare is going to be served up by a show containing lyrics such as, ‘I’ll get you a satanic mechanic, I’m just a sweet transvestite’?

“A show featuring transvestism will inevitably be contemptuous of Christian morality. Cross-dressing is condemned in the bible.

“The show represents a corruption of public decency, by the way in which people on stage are dressed, by their erotic poses, and by the depiction in the plot of illicit sexual relations.

“The website also says, ‘be warned; this show has rude parts’.

“So, by the theatre’s own admission, the show is vulgar and immoral.”

In the past, Pastor Simpson has vocally criticised plans and policies that he believes are offensive to Christianity, including Pride celebrations, Halloween celebrations, Sunday trading hours and the RAF’s proposal to ban women from wearing skirts on parade.

The Rocky Horror Show’s organisers and the Wycombe Swan chose not to comment in response to Pastor Simpson’s concerns.
