The University of Buckingham Medical School held a ‘major incident’ training on Thursday, September 12.
Held at the Harleyford Marina in Marlow, approximately 250 students took part in the exercise where the University of Buckingham medical students played an active role in the simulation.
The water based major incident exercise which took place on the Thames, allowed University of Buckingham medical students to work alongside Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue to experience the role of inter-professional interactions and communication in the health system.
Dr Tom Evans, who is the clinical competency and patient safety lead at the University of Buckingham Medical School, and co-ordinated the training exercise said: “This unique activity allows our students to learn the importance of multiagency working in order to improve patient safety and deliver the best patient care possible during a large-scale incident.”
