WYCOMBE is home to a vast number of restaurants and eateries, with dining experiences from all across the globe on offer.

The people of High Wycombe sure do like a curry, and with dozens of Indian restaurants and takeaways across the area, it's one of the most popular cuisines in town, as well as being the nation's favourite. 

But, which is your favourite and what hygiene rating does it hold?

Here, we look at the five highest–ranking Indian restaurants in the local area on Trip Advisor, and assess their food hygiene assessment and scores handed out by inspectors from Wycombe District Council.

What do the numbers mean?

Rating of 0 means that urgent improvement is necessary.

Rating of 1 means that major improvements are necessary.

Rating of 2 means that improvements are necessary.

Rating of 3 means that the business was found to be generally satisfactory.

Rating of 4 means that the business was rated as good on assessment.

Rating of 5 means that the business was seen as very good.

1. Bombay Palace, 6-8 Crendon Street, High Wycombe

Four-and-a-half star rated Bombay Palace holds the #1 position for High Wycombe. The Crendon Street restaurant describe themselves as “experts in Indian cuisine.”

Visitors to the eatery have recognised it for the “excellent food, service and staff” with 744 out of 889 reviewers leaving the highest possible rating.

One visitor commented: “The food is always fantastic, the staff are extremely friendly. A brilliant Indian restaurant. The naan bread was awesome. Best Indian around for miles.”

Bombay Palace was most recently awarded a four-star hygiene rating.

 2. Kappad South Indian Restaurant, 21A High Street, High Wycombe

The five-star rated Kappad is a Wycombe favourite. Situated on the town high street, visitors praise the restaurant for its “authentic” South Indian menu.

One Tripadvisor reviewer, said: “I have visited here a number of times and have never been disappointed with the food or service.”

This positive online reception is reflected in Kappad’s food hygiene standards – with the restaurant receiving a five-star rating in its most recent inspection in January 2019

3. Mr India, 911 – 913 London Road, Loudwater

In third place is four-and-a-half star rated Mr India. Described by visitors as “outstanding”, the restaurant specialises in both Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine.

One diner, stated: “what a hidden gem. A large variety of dishes, fantastic service, and the food is exceptional and very reasonably priced. My prawns were the size of my son’s fist!”

The restaurant recently received a three out of five in an inspection in May 2019, deeming it “generally satisfactory”.

4. Taste of India, 194 Amersham Road High Wycombe

Taste of India describe themselves as the “pioneers of the Indian Curry Revolution in the UK.” The establishment is the sixth highest ranked Wycombe restaurant and is well received for its ‘food and ambience’.

The eatery was most recently awarded a three star food hygiene rating by the Wycombe District Council in an inspection on May 1 this year.

5. Bucks Spice, 93 West Wycombe Road, High Wycombe

Bucks Spice is another five-star Trip Advisor rated restaurant on this list, receiving an ‘excellent’ rating by 143 of 160 reviewers.

The restaurant specialises as both an Indian restaurant, takeaway and sandwich shop.

One reviewer, said: “Fantastic food! Great customer service, highly recommended! Wouldn’t go anywhere else! Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection!”

The restaurant recently received a three star rating by inspectors on February 28, 2018.*
