THIS week, Wycombe MP Steve Baker writes exclusively to Bucks Free Press readers:

When considering what to write in this week’s Letter from Westminster I did not imagine I would be doing so from Westminster itself.

When I heard the Speaker’s announcement Parliament was to resume this week I was in Wycombe, spending the day at the constituency office meeting constituents to talk about their various concerns.

The following day I had planned to support the Macmillan coffee morning at the Wrights Meadow Centre, then go on to Cressex industrial estate for a presentation on Wycombe District Council’s transport strategy and discuss with businesses there how it might help reduce congestion and commuting times.

After that I was due to join a constituent at a party to celebrate his 100th birthday.

Sadly, all these commitments had to be shelved.

This led me to thinking about how people in High Wycombe are very good at working for others, giving up their time freely to support voluntary and charitable organisations, their neighbours and the area where they live.

We would all feel the loss if these people did not contribute to making everyone’s lives just that little bit better.

Membership of High Wycombe Round Table is a good way to become involved in the community. Round Table organises the firework display at Terriers each year, donating profits to back into local causes.

Although this is probably the event it is most well-known for, it has other social, sporting and community events throughout the year.

Its central theme is to help others whilst having fun and enjoying new experiences.

They would love to hear from anyone aged 18-45 who would like to get involved.

If you are interested you can email highwycombe@roundtable.org.uk.

I know there are many other voluntary organisations who would welcome new members so, if you can play a small part helping others, I urge you make a difference.
