Members from across the local community gathered in Amersham last week for the largest Silver Sunday celebration in Bucks.

The nationwide day of celebration provides free, fun events for older people across the country – helping to prevent social isolation and loneliness and providing a welcoming social experience for those in attendance.

Vice Chairman of Chiltern District Council Mimi Harker OBE, who helped organise the event, paid tribute to those who volunteered and gave up their time to make last weekend’s event special.

Mimi said: “I think this was our best ever event! A massive thank you to our sponsors, Chiltern Leads and Sue Denness the Amersham Tesco Community Champion, for their fantastic support which ensures this event happens.

None of this would happen without our wonderful volunteers who make sure every detail is taken care of, so our guests enjoy the whole experience from start to finish.

“As for our guests, the smiles and happy faces inspire me to host the event the following year and someone has already rung me to book in for next year! If that isn’t success, I don’t know what is!

“I’m just so pleased that everyone wants to be involved over and over again, including our fabulous entertainment, the Buckinghamshire Band of the Royal British Legion and the LuLaLas!

“They were both absolutely splendid! I’m just so thrilled it all went well and everyone had such a good time. I would encourage everyone across Bucks to think about hosting a Silver Sunday event in their town, parish, club, organisation.

“It is such a worthwhile thing to do and leaves you walking on air for the rest of the year whilst you plan the next one! Bless you all for your support in making this such a success!”
