Amersham Library has reopened in a new temporary location following a brief closure whilst the Chiltern Lifestyle Centre is built.

The former site of the library was within the Chiltern Pools site in Amersham, which is due to be demolished next month.

The new Chiltern Lifestyle Centre will be built over the area where the library was previously located and will house the library permanently when it opens to the public.

Amersham library is now located in the King George V offices. The majority of facilities such as computers, photocopying, printing and the children’s library will remain available to the public – although some sessions such as Bounce and Rhyme have been temporarily halted during the development.

Amersham Registration Office which is currently in Amersham Library will also be in the council office on Thursdays.

Cllr Mike Stannard, Deputy Leader of Chiltern District Council said: "After years of planning, it's fantastic to see that building work on the Chiltern Lifestyle Centre project is finally getting started.

"As with any major development, there will be some changes as we go through it, and our top priority is to ensure minimal impact on current users of the Chiltern Pools, staff and residents.

“t's important that residents still have access to a local library for the duration of the building works, therefore, the council offices, which are just across the road from Chiltern Pools, will host the library during the development."

Councillor Gareth Williams, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Communities at Buckinghamshire County Council said: "It's great to be working with Chiltern District Council on this exciting project which will see a first-class brand-new library for Amersham being built as part of this new multi-use development.

“Our library staff will be on hand to help with any questions and queries during our temporary move."
