Horrible Halloween

Bring the whole family, and take part in ‘The Dread Book’, a terrifying trail down Miss Alice's Drive. You may even see a ghost or two. Become the king of pumpkin carving, as you create a spooky masterpiece this Halloween. Our pumpkins are grown especially for us, so as we have a limited number please make sure you come early to avoid disappointment. Experience an afternoon tea with a spooky twist at the Manor Restaurant and treat the kids to a pot of 'worms', a ghost meringue and an eyeball cake. The afternoon tea for adults will also have an eerie twist, so the whole family can indulge in a treat or two. We’ll also be holding a series of spooky storytelling events over five days, as five different authors read their terrifying tales in the story tent. Eerie Dawn's Festival of Frights

Ghost Hunt

Join paranormal investigator, Angelina Georgiou, on a ghost hunt around the Museum’s grounds and buildings. The investigation will be medium lead and will include Victorian methods, pendulums, table tipping, spirit boards, laser pens, glow spheres and more. With all the history in the Museum’s buildings it should be an interesting exploration! There is very little site lighting so please bring a torch (no head-mounted torches), you will also need warm clothing and sensible shoes. Make a Villainous Spoon Puppet

You’ll find out about the cast of hilarious villains from Roald Dahl’s book of twisted nursery rhymes and fairytales, Revolting Rhymes, and listen to an extract from one of the poems for inspiration. Scoff 'n' Stroll

Enjoy a guided Roald Dahl countryside walk followed by an afternoon tea packed with sandwiches, scones and cakes. This month, you'll enjoy a scary story under the railway bridge - exactly the spot where Roald Dahl told his children spooky stories! Stretch your legs and fill your tummy! Your guide Michael will lead you from the Museum and through the nearby woods and fields that inspired Roald Dahl. Listen to extracts from Roald Dahl’s last book My Year, as well as Fantastic Mr Fox and Danny the Champion of the World. See the glorious Chilterns countryside that Dahl used to walk in, and take in some deep breaths of calming, country air! Then head back to the Museum for a well-deserved delicious afternoon tea in the Café, consisting of homemade sandwiches, sweet treats, scones and tea or coffee. Scare School at Eden Shopping Centre

This October half term bring your little monsters down to Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe for some frightfully fun free Halloween entertainment. To kick off the activities, Toys UK will be running their annual Halloween Spooktacular Event on Saturday 26th with free face painting, and in-store trick-or-treating all weekend. The main attraction, Eden’s Scare School, will then take place all half term at Kids Corner. October Half Term Cookery School

Missenden Abbey Pumpkin Carve Spooktacular

Bring the kids along to our spooktacular afternoon filled with lots of fun activities. Amersham Classic Model Train Show

We play with our trains. This is a model train display where you will see lots of trains on the go. A treat for families with children, for nostalgics with a love of toys from the past, and serious collectors will also find plenty to interest them. There will be up to 14 working model train layouts and displays predominately from the 1920's to the 1960's featuring models from the Meccano Company’s iconic Hornby O gauge, Hornby Dublo and Bayko ranges, as well as the products of Lionel, Wrenn, Triang, and Trix. Specialist traders provide a range of good quality locomotives, rolling stock, accessories and spares. The exhibition is being presented by the Chiltern Hills Vintage Train Group (associated with the Hornby Railway Collectors Association.) The Beatin' Hearts (5-piece band)
