Drivers were forced to sit in gridlocked traffic in High Wycombe this afternoon.
Eyewitnesses reported queues of up to 50 minutes trying to get out of the Eden Shopping Centre at around 2.30pm.
There was also traffic chaos on the flyover and surrounding roads.
There were Eden Shopping Centre staff directing traffic, with many drivers left unable to leave via the exit straight onto the Arch Way roundabout.
And roadworks close to the ground floor entrance onto Lily's Walk did not help the situation.
It has not been confirmed what caused the mayhem - but Eden Shopping Centre and Wycombe District Council have been approached for comment.
